GCAG Art Showcased at Sun Valley Do-It Center
The Sun Valley Do-It Center at 1401 Silver Heights Blvd (at HWY 180) is showcasing GCAG art in their fireplace/stove room beginning February 24, 2012. Members contact Karen Muench for more information.

Public Library Show
Grant County Art Guild members are preparing to be the featured artists at the Silver City Public Library for the month of March. It is a great chance for the public to get a first look at the work that some of their favorite local artists and fine crafts people have been producing over the winter months. Expected entries at this show will include paintings in acrylic, oils, watercolor, as well as photography, handcrafted jewelry, pottery and much more. It will all be on display starting March 2. Stop by the Library during regular library hours and enjoy some of the best in local art.

Recent Events...

"Old Masters" Art Exhibit
January 2012

Grant County Art Guild members were invited to do a study (copy) of an Old Masters painting and replicate it. The wonderful results were on dislplay at the Silver City Public Library during the month of January.

Hearst Church Gallery's 26th Annual Purchase Prize Show
September 20, 2011

On September 20, 2011, the Grant County Art Guild rolled out the red carpet for their most important show of the year!  23 New Mexico artists submitted 50 pieces of their best work to the 26th Annual Purchase Prize Exhibit at the historic Hearst Church Gallery in Pinos Altos, New Mexico.  The show was judged and ribbons were awarded on Sept. 20 and the winning entry has been purchased by the Guild for $1,500! 

Juror Susan Carlin, well-known San Antonio artist and art instructor, was present at the public reception that followed at 6 p.m. All were invited to hear her critique and to enjoy the reception. Prizes totaling $2,400 were awarded to winning entries including a “People’s Choice Award.”

Judith Meyer Talks Art at Hearst Church Gallery
August 12, 2011.

The Grant County Art Guild invited members of the art community to attend a presentation by Judith Meyer at the Hearst Church Gallery in Piños Altos at 4 p.m. on August 12, 2011. Judith Meyer, an award-winning artist as well as a juror for many fine art shows, spoke on the topic “What Judges Look for When Judging Art.”Attendees were invited to bring a piece of their art in any medium, 2-D or 3-D, for her expert critique as she would in one of her university classes. Professor Meyer says “My critiques are encouraging while informative regarding the strengths of the work as well as how to make improvements.”
