August 12, 2011 at 4 p.m.

The Grant County Art Guild invited members of the art community to attend a presentation by Judith Meyer at the Hearst Church Gallery in Piños Altos at 4 p.m. on August 12, 2011. Judith Meyer, an award-winning artist as well as a juror for many fine art shows, spoke on the topic “What Judges Look for When Judging Art.” Attendees were invited to bring a piece of their art in any medium, 2-D or 3-D, for her expert critique as she would in one of her university classes. Professor Meyer says “My critiques are encouraging while informative regarding the strengths of the work as well as how to make improvements.”

As well as being an instructor of a variety of art classes and workshops at Western New Mexico University, Judith Meyer has an extensive resumé of awards, instruction, and contributions to her community. In recent years she has been an instructor and curriculum director of a variety of workshops including Northeast Ohio University College of Medicine, Akron Ohio Children’s Hospital, Akron Public Schools, Rockynol Retirement Center/Akron, University of West Virginia, University of California/Davis, and Pangaea Center for the Arts in Akron. In 2009 Professor Meyer was the charge artist for Western New Mexico University's performance of “Fiddler on the Roof," Artist for the Silver City World Music Festival “Festival of the Soul." That same year she was the organizer, poster designer and facilitator for “Artist Lecture Series/An Evening with the Artist.”

Sharing her talent and knowledge of art with the community is an obvious part of Judith Meyer’s life over the years. She has been a volunteer instructor with Western New Mexico University’s Western Institute of Lifelong Learning, a board member of Silver City’s Tourist Committee and has donated artwork to the Mimbres Arts Council. You can see Judith Meyer’s art on displaylocally at the Seedboat Gallery.
